Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program (DHH)

The DHH Program has been educating children for 40 years. With Classrooms in Norton, Freetown, and Taunton, The READS DHH Program provides educational services within a public school setting, Pre-K through high school, as well as early intervention. The DHH Program provides services tailored to each student’s type of hearing loss, communication needs, and choice of amplification (hearing aids, cochlear implants). The two DHH preschool settings are primarily self-contained classrooms with specialized programming. The auditory/oral classroom provides a learning environment that utilizes spoken language. The traditional DHH preschool classroom provides a learning environment that uses American Sign Language as the primary mode of communication.

Academics are provided with the DHH classroom settings until the students are ready to participate in mainstream classes. As the students reach upper elementary and middle school levels, they may continue to receive primary academic instruction with the DHH classes or join mainstream classes. High school students are prepared to learn in a traditional high school environment with support or a vocational technical high school with support.
