Northshore Academy Upper School
Northshore Academy provides educational services for students with average to above average cognitive and academic abilities who are struggling with emotional and psychiatric disabilities, anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral challenges, and autism spectrum disorders. At Northshore Academy, students benefit from taking their classes in groups of fewer than 10 students, with clinical and behavioral supports built into their school day. The curriculum at the academy includes a range of academically challenging and engaging courses, aligned with the MA Curriculum Frameworks. In addition, there is a focus on the development of social skills, and skills for more successful emotional regulation and executive functioning.
The Academy has an extensive enrichment program including arts, athletics, technology, culinary arts, and outdoor education. The multidisciplinary team includes licensed teachers and special educators, clinical social workers, guidance counselors, speech and language pathologists and occupational therapists as needed. All students participate in psycho-educational groups that are appropriate to their needs. As students approach graduation, individualized transition planning may include vocational or work-study opportunities and/or college planning.
