Learning Centers for Students with Multiple Disabilities
This program is designed to meet the academic, medical and therapeutic needs of students with disabilities in multiple areas. Communication, self-care, motility, vocational and leisure skill development are addressed throughout the day guided by the teacher, classroom staff and extensive therapy and vision support team. Program nurses oversee promotion of overall student health. Classroom locations within public schools allow access to inclusive opportunities when indicated to facilitate students’ academic and social skill development. Classrooms follow a functional, experiential curriculum based upon the MA Curriculum Frameworks using the Unique Learning System and other curriculum supports. An MCAS assessment is completed by the classroom teacher, typically in the form of an MCAS-Alternate portfolio documenting the student’s progress over the year.
